Circle-theme Cubic Zirconia Jewelry Enjoys Eternal Popularity

An unbroken circle, which often symbolizes love and/or eternity, has no beginning and no end. Because of its design and sleek appeal, circle-theme jewelry remains very popular among those who are looking to make a modern statement in fashion.

Current trends center around diamond circle pendants, but jewelry designers have discovered a way for women to enjoy the look without emptying their wallet. Done in sterling silver and cubic zirconia, circle-theme pendants are both affordable and dazzling. Created to replicate the flawless white diamond, these necklaces are the perfect compliment to any ensemble.

Jewelry is always in style, but trends are calling for it in a big way – literally. This season, bigger is better. At the same time, current trends surround elegance and femininity, both of which are featured in circle-theme cubic zirconia jewelry. The color trends include cheerful blues, feminine pinks, soft gray, bright purple and neutral tones, including tan and brown. When it comes to choosing jewelry accessories, a glistening white cubic zirconia design will go with every color in your wardrobe. Regardless of whether you are wearing a pink turtleneck sweater or your favorite black dress at dinner, cubic zirconia jewelry is the perfect compliment.

If you want to complete the look, a matching pair of cubic zirconia circle-theme earrings will be the perfect accessory. Whether you purchase a simple pair of sterling silver hoop earrings and add a small cubic zirconia charm or pendant by sliding it onto the hoop or you opt for earrings featuring preset stones, there are many different ways to make your cubic zirconia jewelry collection both versatile and affordable.

As the holidays approach, there is no better way to give a gift that expresses your love than to present her with a dazzling circle necklace. Instead of paying several hundred, or even thousands, of dollars for a diamond necklace, many shoppers are turning toward the look of sterling silver and cubic zirconia jewelry. Not only does this metal belong to the family of precious metals, but it gives a very warm tone that is perfect for the holidays. Combined with the cubic zirconia, which have an icy affect, this is the perfect design for holiday shopping.

A circle-theme necklace can be worn to symbolize love, but also represents eternity to some wearers. This beautiful sentiment can be given to let someone know that you are always with them even when they are far from home, such as a distant relative or the young woman at college. A circle pendant can have many meanings, which is often limited only by the wearer’s imagination. Perhaps a circle inspires a feeling that life has come full circle or that everything is connected in some way or another. For others, cubic zirconia jewelry is simply a popular fashion statement that symbolizes their terrific sense of style.

Whatever your reason for wearing it, this stylish design is both popular and versatile. Although it’s a very fashionable trend, it works for everyone. These designs are perfect for teens, young adults and women of all ages. Much like the design itself, there seems to be no visible end to the popularity of circle-theme jewelry.

What Should Be in My Diaper Bag?

Author: Girls Rule
June 28, 2008

diaper-bag-image.jpgWhat should be in my diaper bag? This is a question all my moms face, especially first-time moms. So what exactly should you put in your diaper bag? I found some great ideas on About.com that I thought would be helpful to my blog readers. Of course, if you’re looking for a diaper bag, be sure to check out our selection of boutique-style diaper bags.

———————————————–

What Should Be in My Diaper Bag?

Here are some items you can pack in the diaper bag to make sure you’re prepared for whatever may come up when you’re out and about. Remember, some items may vary depending on whether you are breastfeeding or bottlefeeding and whether your child is eating solid foods.

Diapering and Clothing

- 6-8 diapers, depending on how long your outing is going to be
- travel-sized container of wipes
- changing pad
- diaper rash ointment
- 2 changes of clothing
- ziplock bags for soiled clothing and diaper disposal
- hat(s) appropriate for shade or warmth

Feeding

- bottles, if formula feeding
- cans of formula or containers of pre-measured formula
- burp cloths
- bottled water for you (and baby if using powdered or concentrated formula)
- jarred food and spoons
- portable snacks for you
- 2-3 bibs

Toys and Soothing Items

- 2 blankets
- pacifiers
- comfort toys
- teething rings
- small, durable books (board books work great)

Safety and Emergencies

- band-aids
- hand sanitizer
- antibiotic ointment
- cell phone
- tissues
- sunblock
- fever reducer/pain reliever
- $20 bill and some quarters

Diaper Packing Tips

- Pack plenty of diapers. You’ll want one for about every two hours you plan to be out. Pack a few extra in case of diarrhea.

- When choosing a blanket, keep the weather conditions in mind.

- If you have a habit of forgetting keys, pack an extra set in the diaper bag to keep with you. This is also good if you have a car that auto-locks when the driver’s door shuts. You may have grabbed the bag and not the baby, yet, so you can still get him out of the car.

- If you know your child has allergies, keep a liquid antihistamine in the bag. If allergies are severe, you might want to get a prescription for an Epi-pen to keep in the bag at all times.

- You never know when you’re going to want to snap a shot of a precious moment, so keep a disposable camera in the bag. This is also good in case you are in a fender bender, you can take pictures of the damage on the spot.

- If you formula feed, you may not use powdered formula. It is one of the most convenient types to carry in a diaper bag, however, since before it’s mixed it doesn’t require refrigeration or ice packs and it can still be used after the can is opened. Just measure the powdered amount in a clean, empty bottle and pack a few bottled waters to mix when you’re ready.

Turquoise Jewelry And How to Buy It

turquoise-gems-2.jpgSince Simply 4 Girls currently offers several pieces of turquoise jewelry, I thought my blog readers would enjoy reading more about turquoise jewelry. I learn something new every day.

Turquoise Jewelry And How to Buy It

An opaque stone, turquoise ranks at the top among all opaque forms. The blue and the green hues of the stone attract all and make it a favorite. Nowadays, it is also available in different catchy shades. Jewelry made of turquoise has a perpetual appeal. It is said that the stone gets its blue color from the sky and hence is known as the ’sky stone’. The truth however, is that the stone that is blue in color has more copper, whereas the one that is green signifies presence of aluminum. The yellow green combination signifies the presence of zinc during formation, though it is rare to find.

Turquoise is formed in rocks rich in content of minerals. It is a water-based stone and there are some dark marks present on it that are the remnants of the original rock. Fine web like lines can also be seen in the stone, which are also remnants of the matrix in which it was formed. This type of the stone is called spider-webbed turquoise. Turquoise is porous and soft, as compared to diamond or sapphire because of the presence of a reasonable amount of water. It is usually stabilized to bring out the best form of color. In this method the pores are filled up with a substance so that the stone retains the color for a long time.

Various forms and styles of turquoise jewelry are available in the market. Designs that imitate the traditional motifs and patterns of indigenous American Indian institutions or modern pieces from the Southwest America are marketed. The designs created by Native Americans are alluring and mystical. You can choose from a wide array of necklaces, earrings and bracelets with turquoise that are available on the market. Very much in fashion, turquoise jewelry is quite easily available online also and at reasonable prices.

A great gift for occasions, turquoise jewelry is a prized possession for all. Proper care should be taken while storing such jewelry. Do not store it with other jewelry, especially metals, as there is a chance that the stone might be scratched. It should be kept away from high heat, extreme cold and chemicals as well.

Do not wear turquoise jewelry when you are doing any kind of heavy work or when there is a chance of damaging the stone. To clean it, you should only use warm water and a soft moist cloth. Never use a commercial cleaner for your turquoise jewelry as the chemicals might have damaging effect on the stone.

How To Make A Retro Candy Bouquet

Author: Girls Rule
June 6, 2008

girls-doing-crafts-3.jpgHere’s a fun project for the kids this summer I found on eHow.com. Be sure to check out our big 2-pounder box of Vintage Candy for all the candy you will need to make the bouquet.

————————————————

How To Make A Retro Candy Bouquet

You may not be able to find it at the local candy store any longer, but the candy you enjoyed as a child is widely available on the Internet. Use the sweets to make a bouquet filled with retro candy. The bouquet can serve as a centerpiece for a party, or you can send one to a friend and share sweet memories.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Candy
Styrofoam or floral foam block
Shred
Wire
Pliers
Florist tape
Lollipop sticks
Tape
Mylar sprays
Toothpick
Bow

Step 1: Locate retro candy you’d like to use online. Type in “retro candy” or “nostalgic candy” in the search box on your Internet browser for sites that sell the stuff, such as Candycrate or Sweet Nostalgia (see Resources below). You’ll find many choices including wax bottles, bottlecaps, Bit o’ Honey, Pixie Sticks, shoelaces and Chick-o-Stick.

Step 2: Stand 8 to 12 boxes of Milk Duds, Good ‘N Plenty or some other boxed candy vertically. Arrange them in a box shape with 2 to 3 boxes on each side. Glue one side of each box to a block of styrofoam or floral foam. Cover the top with colorful shred and then hot glue some hard candies to the top of the shred.

Step 3: Attach candy bars and boxes to lollipop sticks with tape. For other types of candy, wrap wire around the base of each candy. Twist the ends of the wire with pliers. Wrap the wire with florist tape so that it doesn’t show.

Step 4: Insert the wires and sticks into the styrofoam base. Arrange them so that the back row is the highest and other rows are staggered. Add lollipops, wrapped rock candy sticks, and taffy suckers.

Step 5: Stick a large swirl pop or smiley face lollipop toward the front of the arrangement. Attach Mylar sprays to lollipop sticks. Stick them in the base among the candy bars. Attach a large bow to a toothpick and insert in the front of the arrangement.

How To Set Up A Soothing Home Spa Experience

Author: Girls Rule
June 4, 2008

spa-picture.jpgIf you’re as busy and stressed as I am, you may not take time out for self care very often. I found a great article on About.com that can help you incorporate some personal pampering into your lifestyle.

——————————————–

How to Set Up A Soothing Home Spa Experience

If you don’t have the budget for a high-end spa, you can create a relaxing home spa experience for yourself. The following are some basic elements to include in creating a home spa experience that will melt away stress and leave you feeling pampered and relaxed.

Difficulty: Easy

Time Required: 30 Minutes to One Hour

What You Need:

A bathroom
A tub
Some privacy

Here’s How:

Privacy: Perhaps the most important part of the home spa experience is being sure you have some uninterrupted time for just you. If you have to hop out of the tub to circumvent a catastrophe with your toddler or answer a string of calls, you may end up feeling even more tense! So make arrangements for some uninterrupted solitude, let the phone go to voice mail, and prepare to indulge.

Music: If you can arrange to have music in your bathroom, you’ll be glad you did. The right soothing melodies can help melt away the stress, make you feel more removed from reality, and, if you live with others, drown out the household sounds that may remind you of everything else going on, taking your attention away from the here and now of your home spa experience.

Lighting: You’d be surprised at how lighting can create a stress-relieving mood. Lighting the room with candles can fill the area with a soothing scent and create a very relaxing atmosphere.

Bath Products: You can go a long way in creating a luxurious bath with a few helpful products. Lavender-scented bubble bath, for example, uses the power of aromatherapy to soothe you. Body scrubs are used in spas to exfoliate skin, and can be used at home as well. There are also skin-moisturizing oils you can add to your bath to nourish your skin and make the pampered feeling last.

Beauty Treatments: While you’re relaxing, you may as well get more beautiful! Putting a conditioning treatment in your hair and a purifying masque on your face can make your face and scalp feel good and leave you looking more beautiful afterward. Rubbing your dry skin with a loofah and scrubbing calloused feet with a pumice stone can be a little more work, but you’ll love the results, and it’ll only take a few minutes.

After Tub Care: You may want to follow up after you get out of the tub by applying a rich conditioning cream to your skin and a coat of nail polish to your toes. Again this will keep you feeling more pampered between spa treatments.

Massage: You may think a home spa treatment can’t include a massage, but it can! If you can’t enlist the soothing hands of a partner, you can use a self-massager to do the same job: loosen up tight muscles, promote circulation, and make you feel great. Or, if you’re really in the mood to indulge, you can even hire a professional massage therapist to come to your house!

Tips:

Block off a specific amount of time for yourself. Sometimes busy people have a hard time just doing nothing because we can think of so many other things that need doing. If this break is scheduled to be a specific length, you may feel more entitled to just enjoy it.

Try to do this on a regular schedule, like once a week or twice a month. With repetition, you may see your spa time making a significant impact on your overall stress level!

Don’t feel guilty for taking some time for yourself—you deserve it!

6 Great Ways to Start Your Day

Author: Girls Rule
June 3, 2008

women-exercising.jpgLooking for some great ways to start your day? Then you’ll love this article I found on About.com that has some useful tips. I have personally tried yoga in the morning and it works wonders.
——————————————————

A Healthy Lifestyle Starts Each Morning!
The way you spend your morning can add a certain flavor to the rest of your day. Here are some healthy lifestyle habits to incorporate into your morning routine that can leave you better able to handle the stress you experience. Try one or several, and experiment until you find what suits you.

Put On Some Music
Music therapy has been shown to reduce stress and have a positive effect on health. But you don’t need a therapist to enjoy some of the benefits music has to offer. Listening to music as you get ready and start your day will create positive energy and a soothing sense of peace (or a sense of fun, if you play party music). Music can compliment other healthy lifestyle habits, adding a sense of peace to a yoga workout, putting a spring in your step on a morning walk, or stimulating your mind as you write in your journal.

Stretch in the Shower
The hot water will loosen up your muscles, so it’s easier to get a good stretch. The act of stretching will help to release stored tension and enable you to start the day feeling more relaxed, at peace, and ready to handle what comes your way.

Eat a Balanced Breakfast
For those of you who start the day on a bagel and coffee, read this! Breakfast is known as ‘the most important meal of the day’ for a very good reason: a healthy meal in the morning can balance your blood sugar levels and give you the sustenance you need to handle physical and mental stress. Without it, you will be less resilient, both physically and mentally. Be sure to have plenty of protein and fruit, not just caffeine and empty calories!

Drink Green Tea
Sipping a warm cup of tea is a soothing activity that will help you prepare for the day ahead and feel nurtured. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants, so it’s a delicious and healthy lifestyle choice.

Write in Your Journal
Journaling has many health and stress management benefits, and can also lead to increased self-awareness. Writing once a day can help you feel focused, process negative emotions, and solve problems.

Morning Walk
Walking has so many health benefits, the stress management benefits are practically just gravy! A morning walk can get you ready for your day, help you sleep better at night, lower your stress level, and reduce your risk of numerous health conditions. And if you bring a dog with you, you’ll be lavished with attention as well!

Yoga
For a healthy body and peaceful mind, few activities give as much ‘bang for your buck’ as yoga. Combining all the goodness of several stress management techniques, such as diaphragmic breathing, meditation, stretching and more, yoga provides some of the best stress management and health benefits you can find in a single technique. A good way to start your morning is by doing a series of yoga poses called Sun Salutations.

Decorative Candle Safety

Author: Girls Rule
June 2, 2008

candle.jpgI found this great article on HGTV.com on how to safely decorate your home with candles that I think my blog readers will really enjoy. There are some great tips that even I did not know about.

—————————————————–

Decorative Candle Safety

Registered interior designer, Deborah Burnett, demonstrates how candle practices can actually be decorative as well as fire safe.

- Keep burning candles out of drafts using the hottest candle accessory around–draft protectors and glass hurricanes. The decorative containers not only protect the flame from burning irregularly and causing the wax to melt unevenly but they help to accentuate your design style. Try draft protectors for a tranquil Zen motif and a metal and glass closed-top container for a country look.

- Trim the wicks to no more than 1/4 inch on new candles and between each burn period to maintain even wax melting.

- When burning pillar candles for the first time, measure the diameter and allow it to burn for an equal amount of hours. For example, a four-inch candle should burn for four hours initially to create a large well. Otherwise, a small section will melt, making it hard to light.

- Put a candle that can’t be lit again into a plastic bag in the freezer for 48 hours, and then place it in a closet. The chill/thaw process will release more of its fragrance.

- Never place jar or poured candles on cold surfaces such as marble countertops or glass tables. The heat from the container will cause the tops to shatter.

- Never leave burning candles unattended.
